Gladson Carson
Carson Gladson states, “I’ve taken subjects I find most compelling: the figure, the landscape, the detailed study and symbolic abstract forms, and combined them; not just side by side as in traditional collage, but fluidly and transparently, drifting together and showing through each other to enhance the meaning and beauty of each image.”
Carson Gladson is an internationally recognized landscape artist. At the age of nine, he won his first art award for a painting that was accepted into a juried exhibition at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Gladson’s reputation has grown steadily throughout the years as a skilled and insightful painter. For almost thirty years, Carson has been a tenured professor of art at El Camino Community College, which is the second largest community college in America. His work has been exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions over the years and is also in the permanent collections of the Oakland Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Carson Gladson’s work is both pastoral and serene creating images saturated in rich color and atmosphere. Gladson creates classical landscapes combined with the depth and imagination, which generates an exciting mix of technique and technology, of sensitivity and skill.
An accomplished draftsman and painter, Carson Gladson has recently started working with a sophisticated computer technique called “transparent collage”. He creates multiple layers of images originating from a multiplicity of his own paintings and drawings, and then precisely controls their density and opacity.
